Holli, stunnel is used because mail i sent cryptated with ssl, and avast needs the mails decrypted to be able to scan them. So you need stunnel eaven if you use another email than gmail.

Hello, I followed your directions and in the account settings of thunderbird I did as you said but the default port on my is 25. If I put 11110 in it wont get my mail. I also was a little confused about the stunnel and ssl. Not sure if you wanted me to edit the stunnel for avast or gmail. It looked like just for gmail so I didn’t edit anything in the notepad.

Also will this be scanning for viruses in my email?

This worked . . . sort of. I can receive my email now, but I still can’t send email. I have everything set up exactly as you described, and I even tried using ports 587 and 25 instead of 465, but none of those worked.
